Delete your RizPay account

You can close your RizPay account at any time, and you can ask us to delete the personal data we hold about you. This page explains how, what we delete, and what we keep.

1. Before you start: empty your wallet

Our Terms of Service ask you to use or withdraw any wallet balance before you close your account. The app only lets you close your account when your balance is below ₦100. If you have a payment that is still processing, or an open refund or dispute, wait for it to finish so nothing is left owed to you.

2. Close your account in the app

  1. Open the RizPay app and sign in.
  2. Go to Profile, then tap Close Account.
  3. Check your wallet balance on the screen, then tap Confirm & Continue.
  4. Enter your password or passcode and tap Close Account.

You are signed out straight away, and you can no longer sign in or use the app with that account.

Closing your account does not by itself erase your personal data. To have it deleted, also send us a deletion request (step 3). If you cannot sign in to the app, you can skip step 2 and send the request directly.

3. Ask us to delete your data

Contact RizPay Support in any of these ways:

  • Email: write to [email protected] from the email address on your RizPay account, with the subject "Delete my account".
  • Contact form: use the contact form and choose the query type for deleting or deactivating your account.
  • In the app: go to Profile, then Contact, then Chat with RizPay Support (where available), before you close your account.

So we can confirm the account is yours, tell us:

  • your full name,
  • the email address on your account, and
  • the phone number on your account.

We will never ask for your password, passcode, transaction PIN, one-time codes, full card number, or full BVN or NIN. Do not send them to anyone, including people who say they work for RizPay.

If we need more to confirm the request is from you, we will ask by email. We will reply by email once we have handled your request.

4. What we delete

Our support team handles each deletion request by hand. When they process yours, they delete the personal details you gave us or that we stored to run your account, including:

  • your profile: name, username, email address, phone number and profile photo,
  • your sign-in details: passwords, passcodes and passkeys, and the devices and sessions linked to your account,
  • the bank account details you saved for withdrawals or refunds,
  • your saved preferences and notification settings, and
  • data we stored from services you connected, described in section 6.

5. What we keep, and why

As a payments service, we keep some payment records where we have a legal or regulatory reason to, even after an account is deleted. These can include:

  • your transaction history and the account details needed to identify who made each payment,
  • the identity checks you completed when you verified your account, and
  • records we need to prevent fraud, resolve disputes and complaints, or answer lawful requests from the authorities.

We keep these records only for legal, regulatory and security reasons, and protect them in the same way as all other data we hold. Our Privacy Policy explains how we keep and protect data.

6. Data from WhatsApp and other connected services

If you have used RizPay on WhatsApp, we store your WhatsApp phone number, your WhatsApp profile name, and the details of your conversation with RizPay that we need to serve you there. Deleting your RizPay account deletes this data too, apart from any payment records covered in section 5.

You can also stop RizPay reaching you on WhatsApp at any time by blocking or deleting the RizPay chat in WhatsApp. This stops new messages, but it does not delete what RizPay already holds, so send us a deletion request as well.

RizPay does not connect to Instagram accounts today. If we add an Instagram connection, deleting your RizPay account will delete what we stored from it, and you will also be able to remove RizPay from your Instagram settings.

7. Questions

If you have a question about deleting your account or your data, email [email protected] or call or message us on WhatsApp at +234 816 775 6166.
